January 26th
Earthquake
NOTES ON INDIA QUAKE
Just 13 days after the devastating 7.6 in El Salvador, another large earthquake has occurred. On January 26 a 7.9 struck Southern India, killing several thousand.
A total lunar eclipse occurred on January 9, 2001, 15 days after the Christmas Day total eclipse that was used to predict the El Salvador earthquake. Once again approximately one-half of one synodic cycle (further explained) later, a devastating earthquake occurred.
The distance between the point over which the moon was located at time of greatest eclipse (Jan 9 2001 20:20:30 UTC -- 22.38°N 56.71°E) and the earthquake (23.40°N 70.32°E) is more than 1100 km. However, the distance between these two points becomes ten times smaller if the path of the moon over the earth's surface is analyzed further. Less than one hour before the time of greatest eclipse the moon was located over a point on the earth a mere 110 km south of the January 26th epicenter. Please see the maps below for a better representation. This, along with El Salvador earthquake data, can provide critical information for future earthquake predictions.
Further analysis of the El Salvador and India quakes is still being conducted. Additional significant results will be reported here as soon as they become available. E-mail comments or questions to ian_montano@hotmail.com.
